THE ROMAN ROAD STEINER NURSERY

by Mina Gohary

"The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility—these three forces are the very nerve of education.” This trifecta regarding children's pedagogy lay the foundations for Steiner education. The heavy focus on the arts within a Steiner curriculum promoted a design that celebrated the 'need for imagination', transparency and responsibility that Rudolf Steiner saw imperative to a child's development. Fibreglass louvres envelop the facade, that promote both the community to engage with the building and integrate themselves within it through rentable public spaces, as well as engage the children through colour and the natural fibres integrated within the panels. The abundance of light, green spaces, as well as colour allow for the inhabitants of the building to learn, play and explore.
