FIRST YEAR PROJECTS – URBAN BOTHY AND ARTIST’S STUDIO.

by Alina Hafeez

My bothy is for courier drivers. It is on legs to give a parking space below. Its legs and small shape allow access to all car doors and the boot to retrieve/store parcels. Shifts can be long and they are stuck in one place for hours, so I have created a space for them where they can relax and eat their food, with walls reclined for comfort and a 'window wall' that opens like a car boot in hot weather.
My Artist’s Studio is for print-maker Neil Shigley, who portraits the homeless. The front façade consists of a large billboard displaying his artwork, which is sandwiched between two rows of glass panels. The building is categorized to create exposure and intimacy, with the social space inviting people in, spreading awareness about homelessness and tackling it, and the studio sitting above it, with north light pouring in. The living space is behind, private and sheltered.
