LUCY'S CORNER

by Connie Latham

Lucy’s Corner focuses on the reintroduction of hedges in Hertfordshire. By retracing the boundaries of lost medieval settlements, the site lends itself to create a modern settlement which focuses on the historical production of wool and cotton textiles. By analyzing the Manor Houses of the 1700s which encompass the site, they encourage a rethinking of a traditional great hall. By merging the key motifs of hedgerows, boundaries and traditional architecture, a Great Hall is recreated through growing natural architecture.
