IN CASE OF FIRE

by Myles Chapman

‘IN CASE OF WILDFIRE’ aims to highlight and address the amplitude and impact that wildfires have across wildlife and communities. Wildfires are a naturally occurring process that have existed before mankind, and will most likely continue once we have passed. As mankind continues to deplete the worlds natural resources and aid the rate of global warming, wildfires are increasing in both frequency and amplitude. Growing populations have expanded towns and districts into previously uninhabited territories. Consequently, communities now more than ever are at risk of perishing to extreme wildfires. This project situates itself in one of the most exposed area globally (California, USA) where over 2 million homes are at risk, and proposes a sustainable housing solution capable of protecting its occupants in the event of a fire, whilst focusing on recreating a sense of community which challenges the notion of the traditional nuclear family.
