CONFRONTING THE SOMNABULANT CITY: ICELAND'S WELLBEING CENTRE FOR SLEEP & DREAM THERAPY

by Thomas Davison

Steered by ‘Sense-making’ and psychological wellbeing thematics, the project recognises Iceland’s fragile state-of-mind and responds to the specific cultural and socio-economic conditions of its people. Iceland’s Wellbeing Centre harnesses dream therapy to treat the most vulnerable people at the edge of the city. Icelanders experience a stress like no other: extraordinary daylight hours disrupt their circadian rhythms and sleep patterns, crucial components for maintaining a balanced psyche. The project sits on the threshold between tangible and intangible, challenging the borderlessness between the conscious and subconscious to help treat the fragile minds of Iceland. It seeks to confront the somnambulant city of Reykjavik, with bespoke dream therapy and research.
