ARTISTIC METALWORKER WORKSHOP

by Manvin Grover

Metal ore like building for artistic metalworkers as a life and work unit with a shimmering kinetic facade panels. It is situated on the Bethnal Green Road corner as a part of the busy social life in Bethnal Green. The building provides a big and naturally lit exhibition space with a view into the basement workshop from above. Just as everything in the life of a metalworker is connected to his work, everything in this building is connected to the sun-pipe like chimney figure in the centre of the building, providing light for the spaces and natural ventilation for the whole building. Upper floors for private use provide the owner with roof gardens, privacy from the street and sunlight entering the building from the south side.
