WOOLWICH COMMUNITY CENTRE

by Charlotte Barker

The building designed for this project was inspired by the mapping and device projects, in which the sound onsite was investigated. The idea was to create as much noise as possible in the main area of the building by making the building the centre of the community.
Therefore, the building is designed for the use of the entire community, as the building’s spaces have been designed to cater for a wide range of users throughout the day. For example, the hall performance space use for gatherings during the day, children’s clubs in the afternoon and entertainment in the evening. When noise is created within this space It is translated into image with the use of lasers. Other spaces in the building include a café, children’s centre for young children and babies as well as a study space with offices.
