SEEKING SANCTUARY

by Eadan Filbrandt

While the urban has come to define modernity in such a way that those who live in cities experience them as symbols of what it means to live now; the city presents challenges to those who reside and work in them, from rush hour transport to the damaging effects pollution has on skin.

The building proposal provides a skincare brand with a laboratory and treatment rooms based in Wapping, London. The brand’s ethos aims to be as natural and locally sourced as possible with a strong connection to the local community. The skincare brand can test their algae-based products, which are grown and processed on site, and provide a free service to the public, asking visitors to give feedback on the products they use in the treatment rooms.

The design seeks to create a sanctuary for city dwellers.
