THE FUTURIST URBAN PLEASURE GARDEN OF GLUTTONY

by Olga Korolkova

Taking inspiration from the gluttonous imageries in Hieronymus Bosch’s 15-16th-century triptych ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’, Heston Blumenthal’s historical recipes and the proclamations to reinvent cuisine patterns in the Manifesto of Futurist Cooking (1930), the project challenges conventional dining experiences through engaging the whole range of senses. Both visitors to the Sant Elia’s inspired Futurist Gastronomic Laboratory, and diners at the Rice Plantation that consequently supplies the Vertical Sake Distillery will receive an authentic futurist eating experience, amplified by the sound of blenders, scent of aroma diffusers and sight of the structures housing the gastronomic battles. Appropriately, the role of the head chef is given over to a machine that sources archive recipes and is programmed by human beings, the Michelin Star chefs.
