THE LIVING HUB

by Viktorija Silkina

The Living Hub (Climate Change Hub) is a temporary structure created to provide the space for primary school children to learn about Climate Change. Inside the building, kids can learn about different species of vegetation and how it helps building to avoid the heat island effect. A modular system is created to let kids interact and control it according to their needs: space ventilation, daylight control, modular furniture for different types of activities. The Living Hub has a spatial sequence of the spaces which allows visitors to experience different temperatures inside – based on environmental data collected during the site visits and analysis of the digital simulations. Rooftop is used to plant vegetation and seasonal goods which can be used by visitors. Moreover, the green roof helps to reduce peak flow and runoff volume of the rainwater to mitigate the flood risk of the site.
