IN BETWEEN TWO REALITIES

by Sarah Mouawad

The project subverts the conventional notion of the wall in Beirut as a divider of space, reinventing it as a new zone of inclusion and human engagement. It questions physical borders and proposes transforming the typology of a wall from a space-divider into a functional infrastructural space which provides shelter as well as a platform for communal, commercial and cultural activities

The new ‘Habitable wall’ behaves like a parasite that feeds into a so called perfect city centre and distributes its assets to the rest of Beirut. The main focus will be reclaiming the access to the sea and activating the waterfront edge by reviving the fishing community .
