THE 3RD FARMLAND

by Thomas Hall-Thompson

This project is a direct attempt to reconnect the people that live in the 21st century city with the simple process of growing food. This has since been lost by huge movements such as the industrial revolution - As a result of this we are not only putting ourself at risk, but the world.
What we eat is one of the most powerful drivers behind most of the world’s major environmental issues. Through locally sourced growing we can avoid things such as air miles, additives, packaging, food hygiene and many more. The notion of growing locally sourced food can be sought through our urban areas and cities as food and shelter are humans needs; architecture can re-link the relation.
In the 21st Century more than 1/8 of people in London work the ‘3rd shift’ and there is no specific architectural tool to help adjust to this lifestyle ; this project aims to address and summarise a response to this.
