THE NEST TOWER

by Bilal El Figuigui

The Nest Tower is a Co-Living beacon with emphasis on developing a better quality of life to its inhabitans and the locals with generous community spaces within the urban environment. This project aims to create a feasible, sustainable and affordable residential scheme with a greater amount of shairing spaces spaces. The construction is made out of cross-laminated timber with steel and has a reduced impact due to the low carbon foot print of timber. The private bedroom ‘nests’ are separate structures, sheltering the communal inner core, which is open to the elements with the benefit of reducing overall wind loads. The project aims to create an inviting environment with people being able to enjoy the market on ground level and being able to visit the vertical allotments on the upper floors of the building’s core and perhaps even enjoy some bird watching. Unlike a regular tower the Nest Tower does not have an entrance and a reception area, allowing locals to explore the building’s core and creating a new type of communal public spaces.
