ANTHROPOGENIC STUDIES

by Susann-Marii Kerner

A space to teach future eco-warriors about the Anthropocene and the effect of human activity on Earth, by proposing a new subject for Year 6 curriculum called Anthropogenic Studies and providing learning spaces for it. We as people have become the ones who are also part of making the geology with things like nuclear fuel, dammed rives, atmospheric carbon. Whose impact will stretch into future epochs. The evidence of this process is the top layer of strata, ‘made ground’. To highlight the affect of anthropogenic activity, this project reveals historically present landscape of salt marsh, now hidden under the ‘made ground’ layer. Bringing back the landscape of the site will emphasise the temporality and evoke thoughts of what used to be here, what is here now and what will the future be in Anthropocene.
