LIVING IN THE LANDSCAPE

by Saima Rouf

The busy high road adjacent to the site suggests a high concentration of air pollution causing health risks to the local community. This influenced the purpose of the design proposal, which intends to improve the air quality from an ecological perspective. The design strategy was based on the integration of nature with architecture using the concept of ants, the way they live and their role in the environment. It includes private dwellings placed beneath the green landscape, while the communal building with co-living facilities are placed above the dwellings, following the strategy of the ants who dwell underground and carry out collective tasks above ground. The overall landscape acts as an air exchange unit within the site, where the process of photosynthesis releaser cleaner air increasing the health benefits of the local neighbourhood.
