EXTENDED OASIS

by Rojda Aslan

Many rural women in Vietnam are led into the path of becoming street vendors as they need to financially support their families. They spend two thirds of the year away from their homes and families in crowded shared living homes. The aim of the proposal is to provide a home away from home, with an emphasis on comfort, leisure and pleasure within the project. Looking into the different housing typologies within Hanoi I aim to create the optimum living units that both highlights the idea of a collective living but also gives street vendors an area of privacy which the women desperately need. The street vendors have no time to enjoy themselves, with stressful lives and long working hours. Within this project I am to solve this issue by providing moments in which activities can take place where the women can enjoy themselves and forget about their stressful work environment and responsibilities.
