ART ANEW: AN ART GALLERY IN QIANHAI, SHENZHEN

by Christina Gelagotellis

This project is about abandoning the priority of building for the Chinese State and the political class in China. Art Anew is about expressing and providing the appreciation of art with the
influence of Chinese culture within Qianhai. I propose to house the artworks of influential and innovative Chinese artists that have been shunned and imprisoned for expressing their controversial voices.

My effectual qualities are creating interfacing and intimate moments that allow Architecture > Art by reinterpreting the classic white gallery box + spectacle idea into a modern vertical pixelated aggregate structure. I have proposed a cluster of textured gallery cells, cobbled with the main primitive structure. The floor plates and circulation alters constantly as it gives a different interfacing experience at all times. There are limited windows within the gallery spaces. Each space has a specific lighting quality according to the artworks it houses, which is informed by the textured envelope.
