THE MAKER SPACE

by Arshana Rajaratnam

My project is a maker space with an addition of an educational element. It is designed for individuals or groups of people that have ideas, skills or are willing to learn new skills to come to a building with an idea and leave with a product. The aim of the project was to enhance the visual relationship between spaces using the effects of projection and suspension. This was in order to improve creativity, productivity and create curiosity and inspiration for the visitors.?
The building projects out on to the road where visitors are exposed to this effect. It is an unusual feature within the vicinity of the site. As you get closer you are greeted with a large staircase that will need to be climbed to get to the entrance. Inside you are greeted with several units all mostly stacked on top of one another with majority of the middle space being the central focus of workshop space. However design and education spaces are all surrounding the workshop spaces to heighten the visual relationship through suspension and projection. Overall allowing visitors to have a different experience when working.
