ALDER VILLAGE 2100

by Xiao Ma

Inspired by Sebastiano Serlio’s three theatrical scenes, Alder Village 2100 questions the future relationship between nature, humans and robots. It encourages intervening between the three while establishing a mutual cohesion. Whilst a longer life expectancy doesn’t mean a better life, the older generation needs care not only physically but also mentally. As the advancement of technology will transform the nature of everyday life and the relationship between us and technology itself, the project offers a strategy to the social issue by implementing a village for elderly people with the industry of a robotic factory on the Thames. The project stretches from the river to the land where alder trees form a productive forest, which not only uses wetland as an advantage and prevents soil erosion, but also provides a resilient landscape for the residents, the insects, the wildlife and even the robots.
