PHARMACEUTICAL PHANTASMAGORIA

by Celine Battolla

The Pharmaceutical Operations Headquarters provides a space for companies, start-ups and bio-hackers to cooperate in the research and production of pharmaceuticals.
In Shenzhen, the lack of protection of intellectual property rights, of visibility for drug approval procedures and of effective governmental oversight, poor corporate support for drug research and the freedom of an open market, allows this to be the second largest pharmaceutical industry by sales in the world.
The collaborative factory showcases the production stages of pharmaceuticals for the intellectual and experiential benefit of users and the financial benefit of producers.
The Headquarters include labs for production as well as offices and communal amenity spaces, resulting in the overall reduction of costs in transportation and more quality control over products, coupled with a reduction in pollution, waste materials and energy, whilst guaranteeing investors returns by minimising production competition.
By injecting a factory in headquarters, a new typology emerges with effectual En-counter moments exaggerated through a void that navigates the building, exposing it to the public eye, suggesting a more transparent approach in production that promotes public awareness.
