FINDING MEASURE

by Oscar Brown

The Conglomerate Institute of Material Measure is a project with themes of measure and value. The protagonist in the project is the sun, who has taken a physical human-like form and entered earth. It was fed up of being subjected to ‘earthly measures,’ quantities that related to purely to the spectrums of measure of human and earthly proportions. On its arrival to earth, it obsessed over objects and materials, and began to create its own qualitative measurement system based around the objects it acquired on its journeys around South London. The final project is a centre of trade; featuring a non-currency stock exchange, exclaiming the qualitative value of objects which pass through the institute. There are union assembly spaces for traders and a mess hall for the nearby New-Covent Garden Food Exchange.
