THE SHEPHERD'S BUSH MARKET

by Haodong Wu

"The Shepherd's Bush Market" is a combination of a food court and a music hall. The goal of this project is to offer Shepherd's Bush Market a new lease of life that has been in decline for a long time, while providing community kitchens and cookery workshop for the nearby community and Market traders. The food court also held the ephemeral event which is the London food festival once a year (2-3 days) to attract tourism and celebrate different food culture and activities. The music hall is not only a space for performing music, but also a place where students from the Royal Academy of Music attend classes. Market vendors can also use the performance space to celebrate specific events.Since the vast Westfield shopping centre opens in 2008(2 mins walk from Shepherd's Bush Market), the whole Shepherd's Bush area's popularity is concentrated here. Almost people are more willing to go shopping in the new mall, and less desire to go to the once vibrant and historic market. Most of the consumers in the mall are bourgeois, the mall includes lots of luxury brand stores. On the contrary, my new market is a place that brings the poor and the rich together.
