DESERT RECOVERY

by Atiya Moore

This project is an adaptation of traditional refugee camps, with the aim of rehabilitation & stability. Utilising dew harvesting, rainwater harvesting & solar energy generation this project provides an off grid solution to the key issues faced in semi arid Africa. Inspired by the techniques used in traditional African vernacular architecture, the concept encompasses a series of interconnecting solid and void domes that create a sequence of public and private courtyard spaces. Aiming to incorporate the community whilst retaining the privacy needed a series of public spaces along the perimeter of the camp form a wall to allow privacy whilst facilitating the key needs of locals.
