AN ALTERNATE, URBAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH TO ARCHITECTURE

by Giancarlo Albarello

My goal was to create a home, studio and exhibition for the artist Bruce Nauman. My main objective being a way to create a series of spaces that would allow a long and prosperous life for my artist, allowing the comfort of a home without any changes in level (as he is old and thus the minimization of steps is crucial), while also creating a studio space that would inspire his creativity to form new art. Additionally a gallery for him to highlight his work, a space that would take the visitors through a sequence of spatial spaces and permitted them to focus on his artwork. Lastly these diverse spaces would have to have an effortless manner to interchange between them. These requirements would be overshadowed by the environmental challenge to create a project that would minimize the environmental impact utilizing materials that would increase the longevity of the property.
