WEARABLE PLASTICS
by Magdalena Swiech
INPUT: Plastic (PET) bottles
PROCESS: Cleaning; processing into fabric; creation of garments
PLACES: recycling; industrial space; design studio; shop; workshop space; storage
OUTPUT: sustainably-sourced clothing
DESCRIPTION: The building was designed to reduce plastic pollution in Peckham. By creating a "living facade” the building gives people to see how their plastic waste can be used. They can easily place the bottles inside of the facade and follow its journey as it is cleaned, stored in the façade and then processed into new textiles. People are encouraged to participate by the offer of discounts on products in exchange for donations of PET bottles.
