My project in Peckham caters to over 50’s and young adults with the aim of bringing them together to teach each other useful life skills. The two groups are brought together through workshops, recreational space and exhibition areas. The form takes inspiration from a traditional timber shed and reimagines it to suit the needs of the project and the people in Peckham. The materiality of the building reflects the different programmes and the threshold between them which creates individual zones within a large open space that has no visible boundaries. This is also mirrored in the design of the continuous bench that runs throughout the structure but serves a different function depending on the area it’s in and allows the public to stand at the front of the building and view the back of it at the same time.
