THE GARDEN OF EVES: A NEW LANDSCAPE

The Garden of Eves evolved from the experiences of women in and around the criminal justice system. The project will turn the Wormwood Scrubs Prison, a dystopian correctional facility into a place of hope and action, one that heals, rehabilitates and empowers any woman who has lived experience of the criminal justice system and help those at risk of entering it (due to abuse, substances abuse or mental health issues), all the while fighting for changes in the system in terms of rights and laws to bring in a better world for women. A physical sanctuary for women, but also a space that educated, brought people together and inspired change outside of its walls. The design aim was to change the rigid nature of the prison and shape a new landscape through breaking, making, colour, texture, folly and fun. Because...What's the point if we can't have fun?
