The aim of this project is to look at Coryton oil refinery as a possibility to boost one of the most important products that UK is significantly dependent on its importation, Sugar production. The idea of sugar farm is to reduce the percentage of sugar importation and replace it with domestic production, which results in economic growth as well as creating jobs opportunities for those who live in that region. Besides, this project responds to climate change and offers a low carbon and a semi self-sufficient community which produces its own energy, fuel, fertiliser through the by-products of sugar cane and beet. The Farm also aims to provide recreational facilities like shops, gardens, educational workshops in order to create healthy and lively community for workers and their families as well as affordable housing for employees who cannot afford to live in the cities because of the high cost of living and tend to migrate to the suburban areas to live, work and be a part of a rural community.
