This ISE re-introduces the old arts and craft facilities into London focusing on Ally Pally, re-establishing the buildings theatrical origins and proposing an alternative vision which benefits the London’s Film production scene. The Institute of Special Effects better described as a Pre - Production School, houses an extensive mixture of Prosthetic Make-up Studios, Animatronic Fabrication Workshops and Scenic painting galleries, practices which are labelled under threat according to the HCA. Collaborating with the Alexandra Palace’s ‘Creative Learning Program’ will bring local engagement, along with the available venues for hire, the Institute will also have access to Assembly halls and theatres stages allowing opportunities for open exhibitions and large production sets, creating a synergistic program. The scheme has been designed to use film production as a vehicle to revitalise analogue crafting techniques which have been abandoned by the age of digital production.
