THE FERMENTATION STUDIO

“The Fermentation Studio” is a cafe dedicated to sharing the importance of fermentation to the Southwater residents. Fermentation is a wilding process, as it involves humans introducing bacteria into domesticated spaces. They serve food and teach locals how to ferment at home, to improve the mind and body, and reduce food waste. The materiality and form of the site revolves around breathability, with hemp used in both the fabric facade and in the hempcrete, reflecting on how yeast “breathes”.
