The Marylebone Gatehouse to Las Vegas discusses the different meanings of ‘depressing’ in relation to issues of site. The design response of a London Roman Gatehouse stage set exaggerates the narrative of transforming the road into a temporary Las Vegas inspired playground with a historical archive. The London Institute of Sustainable Building Materials and Human Resource is developed in reaction to the undemocratic way the Livery Companies in London City operate. New measures that proactively support a sustainable future sees the inclusion of a Research Centre and Human Resource department. The urban strategy allows for a public landscape enclosed by the two buildings to create a semi-hidden ‘oasis’ courtyard.
