15-MINUTE CITY, CATFORD

by Saima Rouf

The ‘15-minute city’ concept provides a new urban vision for Catford, creating a place to live, work and have easy access to all communal and leisure facilities, all within a 15 minute walk or bike ride. It involves the refurbishment of existing buildings, pedestrianising streets and rerouting local traffic. The addition of social housing integrated with communal facilities encourages social cohesion and addresses the housing issues in Catford. ‘Living In The Grid’ proposes flexible residential units for a changing family, with the flexibility of rearranging internal units as objects within the grid. The Grid also includes a central communal core with various functions enhancing the relations of residents creating a community within ‘The Grid’ itself.
