COLLABUILD

A radical new student accommodation prototype for the Harrow campus of the University of Westminster, a project that encourages collaboration and self-building. This project is further development of the larger scale masterplan (in conjunction with semester 1 proposal of the botanic gardens) for a new campus. The project is based on Walter Segal’s self build method, as a way to provide the students of the university to engage with construction, and to empower them with ownership of being able to build and customise their personal, modular living spaces before moving in and starting the academic year. The project is built on a 600 mm structural grid, with most elements prefabricated with off-the-shelf, standard sized items.
