A NEW WAY OF LIVING

by MARINA BEBANA

Responding to Gravesend’s unfavorable reputation as one of the worst places to live in the UK the project focuses on the notion of a live-work typology building, with the primary purpose of establishing social places for inhabitants. The aim is to reestablish the feeling of belonging to a community and knowing, interacting with, and sharing experiences through the residential dwellings and their communal spaces. By dividing the residential dwelling into blocks with shared accommodation and studio units, I designed a "square" that links the units as the principal common area in each block. The purpose of replicating such locations is to turn Gravesend’s Riverside into a little “village” within the town and develop spaces for social engagement and dynamic interaction.
