OUTSIDE IN

by Jessica Morrison

Outside In is a prototype of experimental living for students at University of Westminster, located at their Art Campus in Harrow. This project is based around the acoustic properties of the site. The student living is built within an acoustic garden which controls the acoustics of site through planting, using evergreens which absorb sound and a wild flower meadow which creates sound. The materials chosen for the proposal either reflect, diffuse or absorb sound, creating different environments for the students. Outdoor communal spaces encourage students to engage with different courses, years and the local community. The garden provides a space which inspires learning through music.
