BEIJING'S FLOATING BUILDINGS
by Konstantinos Branias Vakirtzis
In a city where water has always been a highly valued commodity and a sign of privilege and royalty, this project seeks to provide a publicly accessible water-scape / water garden on which the neglected communities of Beijing will be given the luxury of living in a poetic environment modulated/mediated by water. The transient migrants from China’s countryside and highly educated but cash poor recent graduates find a sanctuary in this project, which offers these weary travellers a sense of identity, protection and connection with the wider neighbourhood, who are also serviced by the water.
