At a time when our relationship to work, making and consumption are rapidly changing students are asked to design working spaces for modern day makers (such as ceramicist, knifemaker or candle maker) on a site in Peckham, South London. To include all necessary accommodation to allow at least one maker to work, showcase and teach their skills on the premises. The precise mixture of accommodation is determined by student research into the requirements of the makers for whom they are designing and includes making a piece using the materials, tools and techniques of the makers themselves. A resultant increased understanding informs the architecture proposed for these actives.
