We believe that design is an iterative creative process, requiring inspiration, testing and discovery, and we encourage a multi-media approach to spatial investigation. Our aim is to develop with students a design process that is persistent and attentive but is also spontaneous, curious, and agile. Our focus is on the creativity of each student. Agoraphobia (Sem A) We are living in a time of fear of public space. Shepherd’s Bush Market, renowned for fabrics, foods, and household goods of all kinds, has been under threat of ‘upmarket’ redevelopment for years. We explored ideas of the shape, materials, the use, and the future of the places we share, considered issues of change, time, seasonality, rest, activity, performance, observation, and the market. We designed a Space for and Ethereal Event, A Community Hub, and a Link to the Market. Our final proposals blend optimism with a pragmatic realism and offer a future for the market and for its communities.
