SPACE FOR A TAILOR

by Aida Osmani

The layout of my building was primarily focused on private and public spaces, so the higher the floor, the more private the space is. My concept models were based on the abstract shape of a sewing machine in elevation view, which also inspired the flow and circulation of both the structure and arrangement of the building. The second (top) floor is the living quarters for the tailor, where he can also enjoy some time outdoors on his private terrace. The first (middle) floor is the main tailoring workshop space, including a storage room for materials and fabrics, as well as an office for where booked appointments take place for specific fittings requested by customers. The ground floor is the clothing store which sells the completed garments, and also provides private changing rooms as well as a seating area for shoppers waiting for a changing room or their upcoming appointment.
