A RESIDENCE TO THE LIKING OF A FABRIC SCULPTOR

by Suha Faisal

World renowned sculptor/artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, a quiet and reserved woman by nature required a space that enabled her to live and work freely without any restrictions. Her work embodies the many faces of war and human agonies which required the design to assist the theme of her sculptures. This is why the exhibition space is designed to be narrow, dark and distressing while her work space and living space remains lit up and free. With large panels that provide privacy to the residence and tilted windows that allow sunlight in, the structure embodies the conflicting nature of her work.
