SHOEMAKER'S BUILDING

by Konstantinos Vakirtzis

The building is located in Ellsworth street in Bethnal Green. It was designed for shoemakers. It is an industrial area in London. The idea for the building is that the shoemakers will be leaving there too. The first two levels are the living spaces and the upper two is the meeting room and the workshop. Even though it is unusual to have a building set up like this most of the Bethnal Green buildings do have the same philosophy. In the facade of the building copper bars symbolize abstract shapes of laces. Moreover, it is used because of the ability of copper to become green after a few years.
