FIRST YEAR PROJECTS – URBAN BOTHY AND ARTIST’S STUDIO.

by Glena Sabri

First year BA Architecture teaches to create and design unique proposals for specific clients, both physically and digitally. To convince the clients what you propose is the best option. My first 4 works (Semester One): Bothy designed for street artists and painters, located in Camden Town. I took into consideration the amount of space, equipment, lighting and materiality which would be best suited for street artists by researching Marc Todd.
The other 4 pieces include designs of a series of spaces (Public Exhibition space, Studio and a home) for Maurizio Cattelan. Knowing that most of his sculptures are hung down the centre of the Guggenheim, Frank Lloyds designs played a crucial part in inspiring me throughout my Semester Two project. I focused largely on creating ‘sculpture specific’ spaces for many of his works e.g. the basement (a part of the public exhibition) has a meteoric, cave-like atmosphere.
