MARGATE FASHION FOUNDATION

by Jijie Peng

Margate Fashion foundation is a new type of educational institution that provides education for people aged over 16. The foundation aims to provide a new type of education while also promoting the culture of Margate through fashion. The school includes public spaces for exhibition purposes and a catwalk with the aim of building a stronger relationship between the community and students. Through research, I found that Margate’s education and employability is one of the lowest in the UK, and as it is difficult for some young people to adapt to traditional education, this results in poor attendance and performance, which will directly affect the employability and quality of life of people living in Margate. During the festival season the school provided costumes to the organizers and participants, building contact with the community.
