MOUSE TRANSGENISIS LABORATORY & TEMPLE

by Shaden Meer

A genetically modified mouse for scientific research, the SuperMouse, became an important body agent, driving the project’s investigation. The mouse offers new perspectives to view the world, as well as raise further questions about animals & humans. The successful SuperMouse, along with its following clones, have become too precious in the eyes of their creators, the Scientists. Eventually, the laboratory becomes their home, which doubles as the Scientists’ temple of mouse worship. “Given that ‘mice are an integral part of human society development’, how can architecture encourage ‘the permanent integration of mice into the human world as functional, spatially valuable, members of society?” The ‘Mouse Transgenesis Laboratory & Temple’ is a project that explores this, touching on key themes and ideas such as animal rights, human/animal relationships & boundaries, the appreciation of other types of life that serve humans, and the notion of the ‘Mouse Architect’.
