HOME REDEFINE

by Trevena Reade

'Home Redefine' is a proposal that aims to provide a safe space for beneficiary play, therapy and urgent accommodation for homeless children with learning disabilities with the help of Horizons For Homeless Children organisation. As humans, we have the habit of associating ideas and things with a stereotype to understand it and with homelessness, it can be the material cardboard as it is a disposable material that you would find almost anywhere and unfortunately, it becomes the primary shelter for many homeless people. The design, inspired by architect Shigeru Ban, uses only cardboard as structure with transformable concertina features transforming the space to close and open it - almost like when you're folding cardboard away when not using it. Additionally, it redefines the meaning of cardboard and utilising the material to create a safe space for children who are homeless; providing a positive connotation.
