CURIOUS INTERSECTION: WHERE SCHOOL MEETS THE CITY

The proposal explores the concept of the 15-minutes city - the idea that everything needed for a good life can be found within a 15-minutes walk of the neighbourhood. A new urban space becomes the focus for performances, eating and a link to the adjacent public park and playground. Mature trees along the edge of the site form a diffuse boundary to the park and a series of open courtyard spaces that connect with each of the interior teaching rooms. The school can be seen as an analogy of the city and its urban grain and as a microcosm of the social as a whole; a large multipurpose “street” extends from the public space and is lined with multiple textures and materials to support learning and discovery.
