A HOME-STUDIO FOR JEAN TINGUELY

by Husna Paruk

Jean Tinguely is a Swiss sculptural artist. After growing tired of the still nature of art, he became obsessed with moving and self-destructive sculptures. His studio space is usually that of chaos, where he is inspired most. Preferring to work outdoors, I designed a large sheltered outdoor work space. Abundant light streams onto the workspace through the glass bridge above. Machinery and excess materials are stored in the indoor studio space. Cranes overhead aid in bringing raw materials from the road to the studio, and aid Tinguely making sculptures. Relying on audience interaction, there is a glass display unit space for people on the streets, and people on the trains passing by, to visually interact with his work.
