KINETIC NOH PLAYHOUSE AND MASK GALLERY

The project focuses on the ethos of Theatre Nohgaku, an international theatre company which wishes to bring Noh Theatre to a new audience by modernising the style and subject of the play. The deconstructing and reconstructing of the building much like Theatre Nohgaku deconstructed tradition led to the creation of the kinetic elements in the design. On the first floor building houses the playhouse, on the second a mask making studio and a gallery space with a demonstration area with a professional mask maker, with the idea that these activities/spaces would be a way to introduce Noh Theatre to a new audience.
