PECKHAM OVENS

by Yasmin Pathan

My design features a large communal oven, a small bakery and a cafe, which will have growing, harvesting and milling facilities on site. The residual heat from the oven is used to grow, bake and prove the bread, which can then be sold to the community on a daily basis. The bakery and mill will only focus on two produces, millet and peas. The purpose of my project is to provide those in the community of all ages an accessible oven space while also providing an educational opportunity to the homeless population in Peckham. Those from impoverished backgrounds will have the opportunity to work in the cafe, bakery and mill on respective skills courses and gain qualifications, while having access to a free hot meal at the end of the night.
