DESIGNING BY LIGHT

The sight of brightly lit city skylines can be an emotional experience. Through lighting up our houses, streets and the even the planet, we eliminate darkness and create our own islands of ‘light’ to see each other and our environments. Hence the desire for sight is prioritised over the senses of smell, touch and taste. This interdisciplinary school of design allows the students to experiment with light, colours and materials, and the effect that these ephemeral design strategies have on architecture, and our habitats. The architecture of the school is constructed as a spectacular interactive light installation that embodies the adjacent St Bartholomew’s Church and the surrounding public spaces. The design concept boldly merges the site and architecture of Little Britain, art and light to allow for the sharing of knowledge, as well as new opportunities for creativity and innovation.
